The development and progress of curriculum and learning within our school community, together with our school wide pedagogical practices, sets goals for students to emerge as

  • community contributors
  • complex thinkers
  • quality producers
  • self respecting persons

Essential Learnings and standards underpin the teaching and learning experiences designed for Woree Students as prescribed by “P-12 Curriculum Framework for Queensland State Schools” and the “Early Years Curriculum Guidelines”. Using the Knowledge and Skills in combination with the Ways of working, teachers plan relevant, engaging and realistic units of work to cater for the diverse needs of our students.  Years 1-7 The 8 key learning areas,  English, Math, Studies of Society and Environments (SOSE), Science, Arts, Technology, Health & Fitness, Language study, are written in strands that cover key elements of primary knowledge. These form the core of the daily routines, investigations and tasks in the classroom.

The Early Years Curriculum -Teachers create and plan stimulating play-based activities to allow students to learn new skills and concepts whilst preparing them for more formal education. A focus on pre-Literacy, pre-numeracy and social activities is a strong component of the young student’s education.

Lower school – Literacy and Numeracy focus heavily in the junior school program. Learning about the world in which they live is a major focus for the lower school in other subject areas. Interesting school based tasks combining several subject areas are used to construct a variety of learning opportunities.

Upper school – In addition to meeting core syllabus requirements, students have the opportunity to be involved in a variety of extension activities. These include Chess club, Choir and the Instrumental music Program, Science club, Optiminds, Rotary Speaking competition and electives run in conjunction with Woree High School. A solid transition program with Woree State School has been established for Year 7 students.

Assessment - student work is moderated to ensure consistency across the school whilst maintaining a high standard prior to reporting.

Learning support programs operate across the school addressing a variety of specific needs including individual, paired, and small group instruction. A team of dedicated teacher aides and tutors assist with this program.

The whole school curriculum program is underpinned by the Woree Way. Students apply these principles daily in their learning endeavours.

  • To learn
  • To respect
  • To cooperate
  • To feel safe
